Quick Start

Step 1: Don't think.
Step 2: Hit "CREATE LIMITATIONS".
Step 3: Obey the card. Explore sounds you never made before.
Step 4: If it sounds bad, blame the app. If it sounds good, you are a genius.

Interface Anatomy

The Cards: The heart of the machine. Front Face: The Instrument you MUST use and a type of processing that has to be applied. Back Face: A specific instruction or technique (e.g., 'Play only black keys’ or ‘100% Wet’). Use both for maximum difficulty and most unexpected results.
Roles: Bass, Chords, Lead, Texture... It's your guideline how to use the cards. You can enable "Different Roles" to break out of the classic arrangement structures.
The Reroll (↻): The button of shame. Use this if you physically cannot create the sound (which is not a good excuse) or if you are weak. Warning: Rerolling damages your Creativity Score.
Checkbox: The 'I Did It' button. Checking confirms you followed the instruction. It boosts your Creativity Score. It feels good and can sound even better. Do it.

Mechanics & Features

Custom Sources & FX: Import your own set of instruments, VSTs. Yes, also that ones you bought on Black Friday sale 4 years ago and never actually used it. It’s the best way to rediscover what you already have.
The Memory (Persistent Decks): Limiter remembers. It operates like a physical deck of cards. Once you draw 'Grand Piano', you won't see it again until you've used every other instrument in the deck (or if you hit SHUFFLE in settings). This forces you to use the dusty corners of your sample and plugins library.
Creativity Score: A measure of your discipline.
Green Bar: You are a stoic machine. You accept what fate deals you.
Red Bar: You are picky. You reroll too much. You are overthinking it.
Try to reach a full green bar every day and see how your creativity expands.
Hard Limit Mode: For those who lack self-control. This disables the ability to reroll a card more than once. If the second card is 'Bagpipes', you are making a Bagpipe song or you process it in a way that makes everything come together.
Flashcards Mode: A simplified, single-card interface. Perfect for a creative block and that one tiny turn in your process that changes everything.

FAQ (The Sassy Section)

Q: Why there are no drums? A: By design, Limiter is for making melodic ideas, basically everything besides drums. That’s the first limitation. If you don’t like it, import your favorite collection of perfectly mixed snares.

Q: It told me to use a 'Sitar' but I don't own a Sitar. A: You have a microphone and a mouth? Hum it. You have a synth, make a patch that sounds like a sitar. Just don’t go on Ebay and buy one. Make it work with what you have.

Q: I don’t even know what the card means. A: This is a perfect moment to learn something new and immediately try it out in practice. Expand your palette.

Q: Can I customize the list? A: Yes. Go to Settings > User Sources. Paste in your actual gear list, your favorite VSTs, or a list of vegetables to sample. Make it yours.

Q: The 'Processing' card sounds terrible with the 'Source' card. A: Maybe it’s not terrible, just unfamiliar. Friction creates heat. Heat creates art. Make it work.

Q: What happens if my Creativity Score hits zero? A: Nothing, except the silent judgment of the algorithm. And perhaps your own conscience.

Q: How do I save my session? A: You don't. Record the audio. Export the WAV. That is the only save file that matters. As soon as you make something that you’d never imagine 20 minutes ago, that’s it - Limiter has done its job.

Tips & Tricks

Don’t stress out: You don’t need to take all these literally. Sometimes the combinations actually might not make any sense. Then try to find the hidden meaning, justify your exceptions with a strong creative decision.
The Combo: Flip the cards. A Grand Piano is boring. A Grand Piano played with No Sustain Pedal and Bitcrushed is a vibe.
The 20-Minute Drill: Set the timer to 20 minutes. Fill all 4 slots. Record 8 bars. When the time is up, stop. Take a listen with an open mind. You just became a more creative person in just 20 minutes.
Start with a Drum Break: The rhythmic context of the groove will make everything that much easier to envision as a full-fledged piece of music.
Writer's Block Cure: Turn on Flashcards Mode. Immerse yourself in the absurdity of the prompt. Do exactly what it says for 2 minutes. Block cured.

Settings Explanations

Night Mode: For the vampires who produce at 3 AM.
User Sources: Feed the machine your own inventory.
Hard Limit: Disable the safety net. Turning off should be blocked.
Creativity Score: Gamify your discipline. Green is good.
Factory Reset: Nuke it. Start fresh. If you experience any bugs. It will keep your custom database.
